The center of the Universe

As I watched those 2 fellas talk about the state of the country and the world last night (The Debate between Senators Obama and McCain), I first made note of the subtle truth that neither one of those guys had any intention of answering the question that was asked. I think if I wandered along in life in this way for very long in life, I would probably not thrive . . . but then again, maybe they are on to something . . . after all, they both DID make it to the election.

I will vote in this election even as I look as these 2 candidates and wonder if perhaps they each made it to the top because they were the only 2 guys who were still standing at the end of the primaries. Perhaps the other candidates saw the writing on the wall and gracefully opted out so they could fade into the "peanut gallery" until things cool off a bit. I'm sure we'll see a lot of those folks re-surface as Presidential Candidates next go-around, and I know that come hell or high or water we are, as a nation, masterful survivors . . .

So maybe these ARE the 2 best candidates simply because they ARE the 2 who have stayed the course even in the face of extreme adversity. It takes a LOT of intestinal fortitude to tackle the Local, National, and Global issues of the day.

PERSISTENCE!

The more I listen to the news, the more I realize that our industry (Real Estate) IS currently "The Center of the Universe" . . . Clearly, the economists and politicians are focusing on what's happening in the mortgage and home sales markets more than anything. Sure there are plenty of other issues, but this all seems to boil down to the personal safety and security of families . . . and the reality that real estate is the only investment out there that physically puts a ROOF over your head while it appreciates over time.

Most everything we do as people, communities, Nations and participants in this Planet Earth experience we are all sharing begins within our most fundamental "Social Network". . . our FAMILY . . . our HOME!

The sermon I heard in church this past Sunday was more like an expose of the economic happenings in the world than a Spiritual message. The priest was talking of the "Macro-Economic Forces" that are driving our current day human experience - and the notion that we really have little actual control over the large picture . . . and we cannot really put our finger on the cause . . . the reasons . . . the blame . . . for our condition. What we CAN do is focus on what MATTERS NOW.

If you learn nothing else from all of this, I hope you'll "get" the simple truth (My Opnion) that the REAL answers to "fixing" this abominable swill that we call the socio-political-economic-climate begin in our HOMES . . . and spread to our extended families . . . and communities . . . We take baby steps and learn how to communicate effectively with each other . . . and we CARE and persist through any adversity we encounter.

I challenge you to look around you today and consider who it that is important in your life and reach out and embrace that person.
